Why would someone be offended by Amnesia being a name for a character?

Honestly? Why?

I know this is my third question on my character's name, but seriously.

Im not going to change it, so please dont tell me to, but why would the name Amnesia offend people?

The story behind the name is that Amnesia's mother was pregnant with her, and her father had Amnesia, or some other memory loss. He had to constantly be explained that the mother was pregnant with his child, because of his memory loss, and he died before the mother gave birth. So in memory of her husband (since the child was a girl and could not be named after a man) she named the child Amnesia instead.

So, if that was the reason for her name in my story, why would that offend someone?

I believe it adds more character and meaning and humanity to the character.

Anyone? Why would someone be offended by Amnesia being a name for a character?
There shouldn't be any reason for someone to be offended, except perhaps on the character's behalf! ;)

The name itself has a realistic background (and mimics reality - many people name their children for the oddest of reasons), and as long as it is used as a fairly important element in the story, it should definitely be used.

Good luck with your story and I hope it goes well. It sounds very interesting!
I don't think it's offending at all. If people are telling you what to write, don't listen to them. It's the author's choice what to name their character, and I think you have a great plot going. Why would someone be offended by Amnesia being a name for a character?
i don't think it would offend anyone. i heard of worse names for worse reasons. like the people who their daughter, Placenta, because it was the first thing her husband saw after the birth. Yuck!
Its not offence, people just think its a stupid idea.

Its like naming your kid "AIDS" or "Bird Flu" or "Smallpox"Why would someone be offended by Amnesia being a name for a character?
I don't find the name Amnesia offensive at all, and I hope I didn't come off that way in the other question I answered.

Even though it's your choice as the author to do whatever you like with your plot, I highly recommend changing the name. Choose an actual name. What's wrong with the name Amanda? I know you're trying to be original and to have a unique name to fit the circumstances, but maybe you should make her name be a mixture of her father's and mother's name.
I don't see why someone would be offended by it, but the name really is ludicrous.

After all, a sane person would not name their child after the father's condition to honor him. Instead, they would give the child the father's name, or a similar name. It does not add to the character's humanity, as it does not seem realistic at all.

I would recommend naming the daughter after the father, or giving her a name similar to his.
I looked at the answers from the last question you posted about this, just to see what you were talking about. Amnesia isn't a dumb name for a character. I've seen worse. And names aren't always things like "Anna" or "Margaret" or names that are actually meant to be names. People name kids after months and flowers, don't they? For example, May, June, and August from The Secret Life of Bees and Astrid from White Oleander.

Your character's name would add more meaning and humility to the character if she's had a hard life. And if she's had a hard life because of the death of her father, all the better. Really, it's your story, and I don't see how offence could be taken to it.

And if people omitted things from stories simply because offence could be taken, do you have any idea how dull literature would be?

Edit: It is wierd, though, that her mother would name her after the thing that killed her husband. You should probably find a reason that works better. Or, yes, you might need to change the name.

Edit2: People made fun of Nessie because it's the Loch Ness Monster's nickname. I'd suggest something like Amy, instead.

Edit3: Panama's answer made me remember- I know someone whose sister teaches preschoolers, and there's this girl named Secretly Anne Angel. No joke. Compared to that, Amnesia is a lovely name.
I don't know if I would be so bold as to call it "offending". I believe it is definitely unique, and it has a good reason to be that way. I would however recommend giving her a cute nickname, because the name is a little lengthy and rather unusual.
No one would be offended, but it is a little odd.
Rocky Horror Picture Show has a character named "Magenta" and one named "Frank N. Furter." Amnesia is fine. My sis is a school teacher, and the kids today have worse real names than Amnesia! Tiki? Ronde? Keeshan? Tequisha? Ophelia,... wait, that's OK!
It wouldn't be the first character named Amnesia. The play "Nunsense" also has a character by that name, and it became a Broadway hit.
